What is antibiotic?

Antibiotics are chemical substances produced by a living organism that kill or stop the growth of disease-causing micro-organisms such as fungi and bacteria.

When do we need antibiotics?

Antibiotics are for bacterial infections only. This includes infections such as bloodstream infections, skin abscess/impetigo, bacterial pneumonia, urinary tract infections, streptococcal pharyngitis and some middle ear infections.

Do antibiotics have side effects?

Side effects of antibiotics can range from mild allergic reactions to severe and debilitating adverse events

What are the most common side effects?

•Mild skin rash or other allergic reactions    •Soft stools, short-term diarrhea
•Upset stomach, nausea
•Loss of appetite     •Fungal (yeast) vaginal infections or oral thrush

What to avoid when taking antibiotics?

High acid foods : Citrus fruits and juices like orange and grapefruit, soda, chocolate and tomato products have a high acid content, which could decrease how much medicine is absorbed into your system for certain antibiotics

How much antibiotic is too much?

There's an increased risk of side effects if you take 2 doses closer together than recommended, Accidentally taking 1 extra dose of your antibiotic is unlikely to cause you any serious harm, But it will increase your chances of getting side effects.

Is there any natural antibiotic? and what are they?

Yes, there are natural antibiotics such as:
Turmeric    Grapefruit Seed Extract (GSE)    Garlic    Echinacea    Cabbage    Extra Virgin Coconut Oil    Fermented Foods
Colloidal Silver. Colloidal Silver is a natural antibiotic and is made by a mixture of silver particles that have been suspended in fluid.

What is antibiotic resistance?

Antimicrobial resistance occurs when microbes evolve mechanisms that protect them from the effects of antimicrobials. All classes of microbes can evolve resistance where the drugs are no longer effective.

How can antibiotic resistance happen?

By overusing or misusing the antibiotics, like taking antibiotics too often or for the wrong reasons such as for viral infections

How to avoid antibiotic resistance?

Take your antibiotics exactly as your doctor tells you.
Do not share your antibiotics with others.
Do not save them for later. Talk to your pharmacist about safely discarding leftover medicines.
Do not take antibiotics prescribed for someone else. This may delay the best treatment for you, make you even sicker, or cause side effects.
